During the last LWGA meeting we saw a photo of Bill and Penny Pence‘s netting. We are looking for new netting for our vineyard. Bill or Penny, can you please provide us details of your netting, and with your experience of how effective it was in protecting against bird attacks? Our email address: is f.makdisi@comcast.net. If others have similar helpful suggestions, it would be very much appreciated. Thanks, Faiz and Rima Makdisi
I’ve been working with FAIZ and have put in 20 hours with him ( to date) setting up his vineyard netting in a manner just like President David Hick’s vineyard. The difference in the protection of his grapes from bioconsumers will be EPIC!!!
Hello,
Does anyone currently use or have advice on electric fencing for vineyards? We have racoon issues most years and I’m thinking this could be a way to deter them. I know there are some types that are lower tech and movable…
Thanks,
Kay Schmaier
Kay – I use an electric sheep fence that keeps the larger critters out of the vineyard. Before I started using it I would get 30-40 percent crop losses. They are readily available online and aren’t too expensive although you must buy the electric unit separately from the fencing. The fencing is a bit bulky but works well. I’ve used it for the last 6 years.
