Hello,
Does anyone currently use or have advice on electric fencing for vineyards? We have racoon issues most years and I’m thinking this could be a way to deter them. I know there are some types that are lower tech and movable…
Thanks,

Thanks for sharing your experience, David! We have barn owls here but that’s all I know so far about them. I’m trying to figure out how far the owl box needs to be from the vineyard for any potential nesters to be interested in hunting in the vineyard. I’ve heard they don’t hunt immediately near the box but not sure what perimeter they’d want.
Great info everyone has contributed here! I’m glad I’ve joined this knowledgeable group:)
My comment about painting the cuts was specific to using an organic fungicide. This is the process used and taught in the student vineyard of Napa Valley College’s viticulture program.
Thanks,
Kay
Hi Eric,
We pruned a couple of weeks ago before the rains. It was a good window. We paint the wounds to avoid trunk disease so perhaps the timing is less sensitive with that precaution.

Hi Rebecca,
Your idea sounds great if Hannah is still available. We have 120 Cabernet vines with lower yield this year… perhaps 600 pounds or so. So we’d definitely have a barrel plus between us. Shoot me am email if you’d like to discuss further. Schkayt@yahoo.com.
Hi there,
We have 120 Cabernet vines with a lower yield this year, perhaps 600-700 pounds in Lafayette. Between the three of us we may have 2 barrels:). My email is schkayt@yahoo.com. Hoping to harvest later this week.
Hi, wondering if you received replies to your query last year? We are in a similar situation this year. We’ve had great experience with Judds Hill Microcrush in Napa but this year don’t have the volume of quality grapes for that to make financial sense. About half of our usual yield.
